Welcome to the Barnes and Howell Family page. This page is about the Barnes and Howell Families from Newfoundland. Our Barnes family originally started in Harbour Grace, later moving on to Pilley's Island, Boot Harbour and other places. The Howell family is from Newtown and later moved on to other areas in Newfoundland as well as Toronto, and the USA.
The Barnes Family
This particular page is about my Barnes family from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland & Labrador. They travelled to Pilley's Island and Boot Harbour. Wentworth travelled to Nova Scotia and then to Toronto, Ontario where most of his descendants currently live. Some cousins went to the drier parts of the USA to manage Tuberculosis, others to Alberta, Canada and some on to Montreal, Quebec.
This is a work in progress. This family tree was my wake up call that not all family information is passed down correctly. I have stumbled across names and places that were wrong on official documents and vital records. I will update as I discover new links to this family tree. Please check back often or follow the site blog for updates.
A special thanks to the family members that have helped me fill in some blanks and shared their stories. I am still looking for more pictures of the Barnes and Howell families. If you have any you would like to share I would really appreciate it. I have only a few.

The Howell Family
I am still working on the Howell Family tree. They were fisherman and sealers mostly. They lived for a time in Newtown, Wesleyville, Newfoundland. Isaiah Howell, Bessie's father, married into the Andrews family of Greenspond. I have an extensive family tree that was given to me by a wonderful lady I met through Family Tree DNA - Family Finder test results. She is a 3rd cousin. She kindly shared the Andrews family tree with me. I will add some details about the Andrews family on a separate page in the future. Follow the blog for updates.
